About

Chelsea Yanuaria, M.A. (she/her) is a postdoctoral clinical scholar fellow at The Family Institute at Northwestern University and a current Ph.D. candidate in counseling psychology at Loyola University Chicago. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral residency at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University Medicine and Children’s Health Council. Ms. Yanuaria has a breadth of experience providing clinical services to children, adolescents, couples, parents, and families in academic medical centers, community mental health, and private practice.

Ms. Yanuaria engages a theoretically integrative approach to therapy and understands client challenges within the various relational and contextual influences in their lives. She believes the therapeutic relationship is foundational to the process of change and brings in skills as is indicated and desired by her clients. Ms. Yanuaria primarily treats young adults and couples as well as children and adolescents in the context of the family. She is especially passionate about supporting clients in adjusting to and processing life transitions and working with parents, couples, and family members to be more attuned and emotionally responsive in their relationships with each other. Ms. Yanuaria is strongly Gottman and DBT informed in her approach to working with couples and families and utilizes emotion coaching strategies in her work with children and parents.

Ms. Yanuaria’s research interests center on familial socialization processes (i.e., emotion socialization and ethnic-racial socialization), and how family and other significant relationships contribute to well-being and resilience in the face of trauma and adversity. An educator at heart, she is deeply invested in the training of future clinicians and enjoys teaching graduate-level courses and providing clinical supervision to new therapists. Across her relationships with clients, research participants, and students, Ms. Yanuaria strives to create a relational space conducive to self-discovery, healing, and growth.
