Sophie Lau, M.S. (she/her) is a pre-licensed mental health clinician and Postgraduate Fellow at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Pepperdine University and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University. Throughout her clinical training, Ms. Lau has worked with individuals, couples, and families facing numerous challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, emotion regulation, stress management, communication issues/conflict resolution, and more. She particularly enjoys working with young adults and couples.
As a systemic therapist, Ms. Lau employs interventions from a variety of therapeutic models to create a treatment plan tailored to each client’s specific background and needs. With a gentle, empathetic, and warm therapeutic style, she is passionate about creating a safe space where clients can heal and grow. Ms. Lau understands the significant impact that societal factors have on clients’ lives and approaches therapy through a culturally sensitive lens, welcoming clients to share their unique experiences. She is dedicated to fostering a strong therapeutic alliance and collaborates with clients to discover and utilize their strengths while achieving their goals at their own pace.
